Leonard T. Rambeau was one of the most important behind the scenes figures in the development of the Canadian music industry and was certainly one of the most professional artists’ managers in the history of Canadian music.

Originally a civil servant who worked with the Department of Manpower and Immigration in Halifax, he became Anne Murray’s manager in 1971, shortly after her career exploded with the success of the Canadian classic hit Snowbird. Balmur, the company he started with Murray and her husband Bill Langstroth, helped the careers of artists as diverse and varied as John Allen Cameron, Frank Mills, Rita MacNeil and George Fox.

Leonard T. Rambeau ushered in a degree of professionalism that was unusual 25 years ago; he worked hard for his clients, negotiating recording, touring, personal appearances, television and film deals with a gentle firmness, always able to see the long-term perspective in his client’s careers.
