A pioneer in the Canadian recording industry, A. Hugh Joseph began his career in 1923 as a chemist with the Berliner Gram-O-Phone Co. which eventually became RCA Victor. In 1927, Mr. Joseph was named the general manager of Victor\u2019s record department, and in 1941, was promoted to the head of A&R.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

Mr. Joseph was responsible for the selection of artists, and for the promotion and sales of their recordings. He built the company\u2019s artist roster in the 1930s and 1940s, focusing on a wide representation of Canadian performers, including Quebec folk, country, dance, pop, choral and recital. He however particular interest in country music and throughout his career signed such acts as Wilf Carter, Hank Snow, King Ganam, Bob King, Paul Brunelle, Ned Landry and Stu Phillips.
