Inducted in 2024

k.d. lang (Kathryn Dawn Lang) helped redefine what Canadian country could sound and look like, emerging from Alberta in the early 1980s with her band the Reclines and a Patsy Cline rooted style that mixed classic country with a sharp, modern edge. After early Canadian acclaim, including a breakout that led to major label attention, she crossed into the wider North American country scene with records like Shadowland and the acclaimed Absolute Torch and Twang, and scored a landmark moment with her Roy Orbison duet “Crying,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals in 1989. Her country era earned significant recognition from the Canadian Country Music Association, and her influence on the genre has been formally celebrated in recent years, including her 2024 induction as an Artist into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, even as her later career expanded well beyond country into pop and adult contemporary.
